Iran gains great win at World Cup 2018 thanks to Morocco own goal

TEHRAN, Jun. 15 (MNA) – Morocco's Aziz Bouhaddouz scored an own goal past Munir Mohamedi for Iran's first goal during the 2018 World Cup Group B match against Morocco at Saint Petersburg Stadium, Saint Petersburg, Russia, on June 15, 2018.

After an exhausting game, where both teams had numerous chances to score, Iran won its World Cup opener against Morocco on Friday in St. Petersburg, 1-0, thanks to an own goal in added time, leading to a crucial three points to start Group B play.

The substitute Bouhaddouz scored past his own goalkeeper with a near post header as he attempted to defend the free-kick taken by Ehsan Hajsafi.

Also on Friday, Portugal will face Spain in a Group B encounter at Fisht Olympic Stadium of Sochi.

The result means Iran currently tops the standings in Group B, with Portugal and Spain set to make their tournament debut in a highly anticipated matchup Friday afternoon.

Both teams face tough tests Wednesday, as Morocco will play Portugal and Iran will face Spain.
